House Style

Whitcomb & Shaftesbury’s house style is based on a softly constructed coat cut with a bit of drape to create a flattering chest and an elegant line from shoulder to waist. We favour a clean and elegant jacket with a one button fastening and minimum frills.

The Drape cut is accentuated by a natural shoulder with just enough padding to create a clean line and a flat roped sleeve head. Armholes are cut high to allow for freedom of movement and to create a long line through the torso.

Emphasis is placed on creating a flattering three dimensional shape through a rigorous combination of steam-work and tailoring rather than excessive structure or padding.

The coat is cut to button at the natural waist with slightly open fronts. Lapels sit high with the slightest belly at the bottom.

 We can make every type of garment from lounge suits and jackets to dinner suits (tuxedos), overcoats and formal wear including morning and evening tails. We are also very experienced in cutting shooting suits and Plus Twos.

 We pride ourselves in the flexibility of our work and making garments unique through the introduction of small and personal details in every garment.
